Immunization Project: Information for Medical Teams
This list has suggestions from previous medical teams. Please send corrections or additional information to director@thehaiticonnection.org
Access website and review information.
Plan number of vaccines per team subset: interpreter, scribe, provider and circulating member.
One month proir to arrival, send Ministere de la Sante the letter of introduction with the clinic date, location, # of vaccines, team leader's name(s), contact information, and attach a copy of their credentials. Copy the information to Pan American Health Organization and The Haiti Connection.
Designate two team members to keep the information on the clinics and immunizations.
Designate two team members on site in Haiti who will organize and arrange for the clinic patients; contact local health officials, provide interpreters and maintain records for continuity of care.
Print, laminate and bring copies of Schedule, Spacing of Immuniobiologicals, Vaccine Management/ Transportation/ Reconstruction, and immunization information for team to review and post on site.
Print and bring Vaccine Information Statements for patients to review and copies of the Carte National de Vaccination cards for patients to keep.
Bring pens, pencils and sharpeners, lined paper, clipboards, flashlight and batteries, soap pads, antibiotic wipes, plastic zip-closure bags in different sizes, plastic shower curtains to use as tarps, trash bags, exam gloves, wash basin(s), towels, peroxide, band-aids, and paper exam table sheets. If you have a medical clinic, bring additional supplies for that clinic.
Print and bring 8.5 x 11 Patient Information Forms on cardstock to file and leave on site.
Bring a plastic file box with a tight fitting lid and heavy duty dividers.
Freeze several briquettes, place in coolers, and bring them for storage and transportation of vaccines. Coleman Xtreme and Igloo MaxCold advertise they keep contents cold up to 4 days.
If you have not received confirmation of the information two weeks prior to the clinic, resubmit.
Several days prior to the clinics, team members in Haiti can distribute colored theater tickets to the number of patients they plan to see, a different color for each day.
Each team partners a member from the visiting team with a member from the local community team.
Pencils are better than candy. Pinwheels and bubbles distract small children.
Water and shade for those who wait. Team can rotate 20 minute breaks every two hours in a secluded area.
An excellent opportunity to use posters or power point for education on water quality, nutrition, HIV prevention and sanitation.
You can buy chairs, tables and dividers in Haiti.
Bring several extra coolers and briquettes for the MSPP to keep and use in Haiti.
