Information for Medical Teams
This list has suggestions from previous medical teams. Please send corrections or
additional information to director@thehaiticonnection.org
Access website and review information.
Plan number of vaccines per team subset: interpreter, scribe,
provider and circulating member.
One month proir to arrival, send Ministere de la Sante the letter
of introduction with the clinic date, location, # of vaccines, team leader's name(s),
contact information, and attach a copy of their credentials. Copy the information to
Pan American Health Organization and The Haiti Connection.
Designate two team members to keep the information on the clinics
and immunizations.
Designate two team members on site in Haiti who will organize and
arrange for the clinic patients; contact local health officials, provide interpreters and
maintain records for continuity of care.
Print, laminate and bring copies of Schedule, Spacing of
Immuniobiologicals, Vaccine Management/ Transportation/ Reconstruction, and immunization
information for team to review and post on site.
Print and bring Vaccine Information Statements for patients to
review and copies of the Carte National de Vaccination cards for patients to keep.
Bring pens, pencils and sharpeners, lined paper, clipboards,
flashlight and batteries, soap pads, antibiotic wipes, plastic zip-closure bags in
different sizes, plastic shower curtains to use as tarps, trash bags, exam gloves, wash
basin(s), towels, peroxide, band-aids, and paper exam table sheets. If you have a medical
clinic, bring additional supplies for that clinic.
Print and bring 8.5 x 11 Patient Information Forms on cardstock to
file and leave on site.
Bring a plastic file box with a tight fitting lid and heavy duty
dividers.
Freeze several briquettes, place in coolers, and bring them for
storage and transportation of vaccines. Coleman Xtreme and Igloo MaxCold advertise they keep
contents cold up to 4 days.
If you have not received confirmation of the information two weeks
prior to the clinic, resubmit.
Several days prior to the clinics, team members in Haiti can
distribute colored theater tickets to the number of patients they plan to see, a different
color for each day.
Each team partners a member from the visiting team with a member
from the local community team.
Pencils are better than candy. Pinwheels and bubbles distract
small children.
Water and shade for those who wait. Team can rotate 20 minute
breaks every two hours in a secluded area.
An excellent opportunity to use posters or power point for education
on water quality, nutrition, HIV prevention and sanitation.
You can buy chairs, tables and dividers in Haiti.
Bring several extra coolers and briquettes for the MSPP to keep and
use in Haiti.
